[ 01 ]   Edwardsville to Granite City

Is Elite Speed close enough to Edwardsville to be worth the drive?

Elite Speed trains Edwardsville athletes at 3985 Horseshoe Lake Rd in Granite City, a straight run south on IL-159 and then west on I-270. Group speed and agility starts at $30 a month, the first session is free, and coaching happens in groups of 1 to 15 so nobody gets lost.

Athletes here come out of Edwardsville CUSD 7, and their seasons are set by the IHSA: state finals in March for basketball, May for track and field and June for softball. Elite Speed is not affiliated with the district.

Every Edwardsville parent asks the same thing first, and it is not about the drills. It is whether this turns into another forty-five minutes in the car on a Tuesday. It does not. Elite Speed sits on the Granite City side of Horseshoe Lake, close to I-270 and the I-255 corridor, which is the part of the metro-east everything already runs through.

The route from Edwardsville

  • Take IL-159 or IL-157 south out of Edwardsville toward Pontoon Beach.
  • Pick up I-270 and head west toward Granite City.
  • Come off toward Horseshoe Lake and follow Horseshoe Lake Rd to the building.

In normal evening traffic that is roughly a twenty-minute drive, and it is one highway rather than a string of side streets. One of our Google reviewers put the logistics plainly: easy to get to and not too far off the highway.

The other half of the answer is what happens once you are inside. Groups run 1 to 15 athletes, so a coach can stand with your kid and fix one specific thing. That is the difference between a session and a workout video, and it is why a twenty-minute drive is worth making twice a week instead of once a season.

[ 02 ]   The Tigers

Which Edwardsville athletes end up here

The athletes who come from Edwardsville play for Edwardsville High School and the youth leagues that feed it. Elite Speed has no affiliation with the Tigers program and does not claim one. What we have is the turf, the room and the coaching for the work a school season never has time for.

  • 01
    Football

Position work Monday through Thursday. Wide receiver, running back, defensive back, linebacker and offensive line each get their own coach and their own drills instead of one generic circuit.

  • 02
    Track season

Sprint mechanics are the event. Arm action, knee drive, ground contact and the first three steps out of a stance, corrected one athlete at a time.

  • 03
    The three-sport kid

An Edwardsville athlete who plays football in the fall, basketball in the winter and runs track in the spring does not need three different gyms. The foundation is the same one.

[ 05 ]   Getting started

How an Edwardsville family starts

Book the free session

Pick a weekday between 4:00pm and 9:00pm, or Saturday morning between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Saturday is the easiest first visit for an Edwardsville family because nothing else is scheduled against it.

Drive down and watch

Roughly twenty minutes from Edwardsville. Park, walk in, and stay for the whole session. You will see the warm-up, the drills and whether your athlete is getting corrected or just getting tired.

Decide after, not before

Nobody pitches you at the end. If it fits, the membership works like a gym: come when your schedule allows, no season-long contract, no penalty for a week of school ball.

[ 06 ]   Questions

What Edwardsville parents ask first

How far is Elite Speed from Edwardsville?

Elite Speed sits at 3985 Horseshoe Lake Rd in Granite City, roughly a twenty-minute drive from Edwardsville in normal traffic. The route is IL-159 or IL-157 south, west on I-270, then off toward Horseshoe Lake. One Google reviewer called it easy to get to and not too far off the highway.

Do athletes from Edwardsville train at Elite Speed?

Yes. Athletes come to Elite Speed from Edwardsville, Collinsville, Belleville, O’Fallon, Glen Carbon, Troy, Maryville and Alton, along with Granite City itself. Elite Speed has no affiliation with Edwardsville High School or any school district, so every athlete comes on their own family’s schedule.

How much does speed training cost for Edwardsville athletes?

The price is the same for every athlete no matter which town they drive in from. Group speed and agility runs $30 to $120 a month, a single drop-in class is $30, and position-specific football training runs higher, up to $480 a month for semi-private work. The first session is free.

What days can an Edwardsville athlete train at Elite Speed?

Elite Speed is open Monday through Thursday from 4:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm, and is closed Friday and Sunday. The weekday window opens after the school day and runs late enough that an Edwardsville family can still come after a school practice. Saturday morning is the easiest slot for a first visit.

Is Elite Speed connected to Edwardsville High School?

No. Elite Speed is an independent training facility in Granite City with no partnership, sponsorship or affiliation with Edwardsville High School, the Tigers program or any school district. The training is built to fit around a school season rather than compete with it.
