How far is Elite Speed from Alton, and is it worth the drive?
Elite Speed trains Alton athletes at 3985 Horseshoe Lake Rd in Granite City, roughly half an hour south down the river road. Group speed and agility starts at $30 a month, boys and girls train in separate classes, and the first session costs nothing at all.
Athletes here come out of the Alton School District, and their seasons are set by the IHSA: state finals in March for basketball, May for track and field and June for softball. Elite Speed is not affiliated with the district.
Alton is the longest of the river-town drives on this list, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What makes it work is that it is one road, not a puzzle. You come down IL-3 or IL-111 the same way you already drive to half the things in the metro-east, and the building sits right by Horseshoe Lake with I-270 next to it.
The route from Alton
- Head south on IL-3 or IL-111 out of Alton toward Wood River and Roxana.
- Keep going south past Mitchell into Granite City.
- Cut east toward Horseshoe Lake and finish on Horseshoe Lake Rd.

Alton athletes, boys and girls
Athletes driving down from Alton play for Alton High School and the youth leagues that feed the Redbirds. Elite Speed has no affiliation with the school and does not claim one. It is the extra work, on turf, in the hours a school season leaves open.

Girls Speed & Agility is a class of its own, not a coed session with a few girls in it. Same coaching, same drills, its own room, built around female athletes.
- 02Basketball and track
Lateral quickness, change of direction, transition speed and sprint mechanics. Winter and spring athletes get the same foundation the football players do.
- 03Football and the off-season
Position work runs Monday through Thursday. Wide receiver, running back, defensive back, linebacker and offensive line each get their own coach.

How an Alton family starts
Take the Saturday slot
Saturday between 9:00am and 12:00pm is the easiest first visit from Alton. The river road is quiet, nothing else is scheduled against it, and you are home before lunch.
Stay for the whole session
You watch all of it. The warm-up, the drills, and whether a coach is actually correcting your athlete or just counting reps at them.
Then decide about the drive
If it is worth half an hour twice a week, the membership works like a gym. Come when your schedule allows, no season contract, no penalty for a week of school ball.
